The Trillo de la Danta means in Spanish Tapir’s trail, is located in the community of Los Planes in the buffer zone of the Corcovado National Park. Being right next to Corcovado you can find the same animals that are seen inside the park. This project, like many others, is part of the Community Rural Tourism that is gradually developed in the vicinity of protected areas as an economic alternative for communities that have restricted hunting and logging of protected areas.
The tour takes place in Finca Paz y Flora a splendid place surrounded by a beautiful garden located in front of the facilities (sanitary services, small rooms, hammocks and the restaurant), this small garden attracts a large number of bird species.
The trails are within a primary tropical forest very representative of the tropical rain forest with its lush trees loaded with epiphytic plants that adhere in search of sunlight.
The most representative fauna are the Collared peccary or saíno, agouti, coati, tapir and the monkeys like howler monkey, cappuccinos monkey and spider monkey.
During the walk the weather conditions are hot and humid typical of tropical forests, but almost at the end of the tour we will visit a waterfall where you can cool off with the clean waters coming from the many natural springs that sprout from the ground. Once refreshed we continue the journey to finish again at the point where we started and enjoy the delicious traditional lunch served in banana leaves and cooked with firewood because there is no electrical service there.
