The Golfo Dulce is one of the two gulfs of Costa Rica and the best preserved, it is surrounded by several protected areas such as the Piedras Blancas National Park, the Golfo Dulce Forest Reserve and the Corcovado National Park. It is a spawning site of great importance to various species such as hammerhead sharks and needle fish as well as the home of our only endemic marine snake. In its waters a great variety of socioeconomic and tourist activities can be developed, such as the Kayak Tour and Bioluminescence.
The tour begins on the beach of Puerto Jiménez in front of the Los Delfines restaurant. The guides will provide you with various safety rules that you must follow during the tour. We will start this tour enjoying the wonderful sunset that the Osa Peninsula offers us.
The mangrove forest present in Puerto Jiménez has four different mangrove species known as: red, white, black and pineapple mangrove, this is an exciting and informative tour accompanied by the observation of birds and other wild animals while rowing on the Platanares River.
Mangroves are of great importance because they function as nurseries for fish, protect the coasts against storms and hurricanes and provide food for a wide variety of animals. At nightfall comes the most expected, the appearance of the phosphorescent blue algae known as dinoflagellates. It is a unique experience worthy of a fictional movie.
