Lodge La Amistad
Our Lodge offers comfortable rooms with electricity generated from our on-site, low-impact hydroelectric plant, private baths, hot water and queen-sized beds. You’ll love the fine wood works throughout, wrought only from deadfall from our own reserve. View birds, monkeys and butterflies while you relax and/or socialize. We serve typical Costa Rican fare, treats from our organic garden, local trout and barbecue, all of course accompanied by our magnificent coffee.
The surrounding forest is considered by many the most extraordinary in all of Costa Rica, home to quetzals, monkeys, tapirs, jaguars and over400 bird species. Some of the rarest butterflies in the world are found here, as well as the only nocturnal monkey in Costa Rica. Within our boundaries are four different types of forest: premontane, montane, cloud and scrub alpine.
Find yourself deep in a remote tropical forest of unsurpassed beauty, where the silence is broken only by the songs of birds, howls of monkeys, murmur of streams, gentle winds through the trees, and the night symphony of crickets and frogs. Simply unforgettable.

Las Cruces Biological Station / Wilson Botanical Garden
This is a regional center for education and research. The campus accommodates groups with a large meeting hall, dining hall, laboratories, library and smaller classrooms. Double cabins are available for researchers and their families. There are 12 double occupancy, hotel-style rooms available for rent, each with two single beds, private bathroom and balcony, especially nice for birdwatchers and natural history tourists. Most buildings have wireless internet.
The Wilson Botanical Garden contains a great diversity of tropical and subtropical ornamental plants, representing lesser-known plant families and endangered plant species. The Gardens maintain a vast collection of helechos, aroids, bromeliads, gingers, heliconias, marantas and palms. You can see more than 1000genera of 212 plant families. Guided or self-guided walks can specialize in areas: Palm, Cactus, Lily, Heliconia, and demonstration crop plantations.
Las Cruces receives 4000 mm precipitations annually, with a dry season January through March. Even then, cloudy afternoons and evenings are common, but it is thanks to this moisture that epiphyte flora thrive. Las Cruces encompasses a total of 266 hectares, of which 200 are primary forest and 50 secondary. According to Holdridge’s Life Zones system, the forest is classified as Premontaine Tropical Forest, with it’s topography unique to the elevation between 1000-1350 meters. This elevation range supports great biological diversity: over 200 species of flora and 100 species of mammals, 43 of which are bats. Over 400 bird species have been observed here, and several are regional natives. Due to the elevation there are fewer reptiles, reported at 70 species. Concerning insects; 1000 species at least are present.

We offer cabins with private bath, twin beds, fans and balcony with view to the gardens.

Bosque del Tolomuco
A peaceful retreat located in the heart of the Talamanca Mountains, in the Southern Pacific of Costa Rica. Surrounded by gardens and natural habitat, where birds can be seen all day long, our lodge is a peaceful spot to spend a few days, a week or your entire vacation. With access to National Parks, hiking trails, and tours, Bosque del Tolomuco is the perfect choice.
From Bosque del Tolomuco one can visit the beach, within a short drive, and explore Dominical and Ballena Marine National Park. Another option would be to take a trekking tour to Mount Chirripo, explore Las Quebradas Biological Reserve or Los Cusingos Bird Sanctuary at Dr. Skutch's Farm near San Isidro, and much more.

Come and visit, to relax by the pool, read by the gardens, sit by the fireplace on cool evenings and enjoy a few of the wonderful sights and sounds that surround us.
Our Bosque (forest) offers a quiet environment for birdwatching. We have numerous, well maintained trails for easy hiking and birding along the way. Black Guans, Blue-crowned Motmots, Slate-throated Redstarts, Silver-throated Tanagers, and even the uncommon Red-fronted Parrolets fly over the property almost everyday!
We hope to have you as our guest so that we can share everything we have to offer at Bosque del Tolomuco!
